"[Hanna Ashbrook] crafts sophisticated songs that belie her youth. Plucked guitar provides a counterpoint for her vocal melodies that slowly rise and fall. At times, her songs seem to capture a single moment, crystalized and delicate, and her voice can be simultaneously vulnerable and strong” (Homeroom Chicago).
In the suburbs of Chicago, Hanna began learning music as a child starting with violin, piano and then eventually picking up the guitar which sparked the start of her original songwriting. With vocal influences like Thom Yorke, Jeff Buckley and Amy Winehouse, Hanna crafts edgy storyteller lyrics exposed through her hauntingly beautiful voice and distorted electric guitar lines. After recovering from vocal surgery in 2013, she has continued to write new music, opened for acts including BOY and Lily & Madeline, writes material for television and commercials, and was most recently a contestant on season 9 of NBC’s “The Voice”. She is currently recording her debut project.
